Amazon's New Direct Validation for Portable Power Supplies: A Complete Guide for Sellers

Amazon has officially entered an era of strict enforcement for portable power sources.

Emergency Alert! Amazon has recently released new compliance requirements for portable power supplies, officially marking the beginning of strict supervision in this category. The most significant change: the Direct Validation system completely replaces self-uploading of test documents. All portable power supplies currently on sale or newly listed must undergo testing/validation by designated third-party agencies before they can be sold.

While sellers need to restructure their processes, this move will eliminate market chaos and create a fairer competitive environment in the long run. This is Amazon's core strategy to ensure consumer safety and enhance product reputation.

Part 1: What is "Direct Validation"?

Direct Validation is Amazon’s new, streamlined system for verifying product safety. Instead of sellers submitting their own test reports, the process is now handled entirely by trusted third-party Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) bodies.

Key Features include:

Mandatory Requirement: Specific product categories must be tested/certified by Amazon-recognized TIC bodies, or sellers must submit existing reports for verification.

Direct Results: The TIC body sends the test or validation results directly to Amazon.

No Self-Uploading: Sellers cannot upload compliance documents themselves – all processes require third-party endorsement.

Part 2: Compliance Key-Matching Standards to Products

Step one: Understand the scope! Amazon defines portable power supplies as devices with built-in lithium batteries that can power other devices without a standard power source.

Different products require different standards. Precision matching is crucial!

01 Power Banks (Portable Chargers)

Choose one of these three standards combinations.

UL 2056 (Specific standard for lithium-ion power banks)

IEC/UL/CSA 62368-1 + 62133-2

IEC/UL/CSA 62368-1 + UL 2054

02 Portable Outdoor Power Supplies (Portable Power Stations)

Must meet THIS standard – no alternatives!

UL 2743 (Safety standard for portable power packs)

03 Universal Requirements – All Categories

UN 38.3  (Lithium battery transport test): International standard ensuring transport safety – mandatory for all!

Part 3: Already Have Reports from Other Labs? Here's What to Do

If you already have a test report from a lab, you can still use it, but you must follow a new process:

1. Select a recognized TIC body from Amazon's list.

2. Inform the body that you have an existing report.

3. Submit the report to them for evaluation.

The agency will determine if the report is acceptable or if supplementary testing is required to meet Amazon's current requirements.

Important Reminder: Direct Validation is a comprehensive compliance audit. It involves more than just checking a document. Also, please note that the fees for this validation process are borne by the seller.

Part 4: A 5-Step Action Plan for Sellers

Don't panic. Follow these five steps to ensure your listings remain active and compliant.

Step 1: Comprehensive-Self Audit

Review your portable power supply ASINs and identify product types and required standards. Prioritize ASINs that have already received testing requests in "Account Health" to avoid overdue delisting.

Step 02: Prepare Documents

Organize compliance documents for each ASIN:

Core reports: Must be from ISO 17025 accredited labs and valid within 12 months

Step 03: Connect with TIC Agencies

Contact platform-approved TIC agencies, submit documents and samples for verification. Choose reputable, efficient service providers to avoid delays.

Step 04: Proactive Compliance

Even without testing notices, complete compliance preparations for all ASINs in advance. Amazon conducts regular and spot checks – proactive compliance prevents delisting risks.

Step 05: Stay Updated

Monitor platform announcements and industry news. Track compliance policy changes and adjust strategies accordingly.
